Welcome to the Age of Aquarius

“Things worth Surrendering to: The Rings of Saturn” Mixed - media collage by Gabrielle Abbott

Monday is the Winter Solstice and the dawning of the age of Aquarius.

Many traditions teach that the Age of Aquarius ushers in a new era of greater love, compassion and elevated consciousness. I believe this to be true and invite you to join me in doing something ritualistic to celebrate. Below is a list of my top 5, easy ways that you can connect with this special energy.

#1. Woohoo! Welcome! Get excited about this new age! If you need a refresher on what it’s all about you could start by rocking with this famous song (and omg that music video!). Follow it up by reading this article from my favorite astrologer, Chani Nicholas.

#2. Do a simple solstice journaling ritual. This is a brief exercise that will help you get clarity on a specific aspect of you life. I usually apply this exercise to my creative practice, but you could also use it to evaluate you relationships, health or lifestyle. Make the act of journaling feel ritualistic by lighting a candle or meditating first. I’ve got some Winter Solstice Journaling prompts in this post.

#3. Map your core desires for the year ahead. You can combine this exercise with the previous exercise or do it as its own ritual. You can also make this as simple or ritualistic as you like. If you have the time make a creative collage art piece reflecting your core desire words. For a detailed explanation of what Core Desires are and how to map them, read this post.

#4. Take a salt bath. It’s really important to let our bodies rest and be quiet during the solstice. Remember that your body is 80% water, and salt cleanses water, the way that sage purifies air. When you take a bath with Epson salts, you renew your body at the cellular level. Add 5 to 10 drops of lavender essential oil to the water for a spa experience.

#5. Throw a rave for your “pod” in your living room. I know I just said to rest, but if you feel you have energy, Dance too! We set up the disco ball (that I’ve had since my eighth grade birthday party) in our kitchen and have been shaking our booties to DJ live streams on “Twitch”. Here are a couple free dance music channels that I’m loving:

I hope you have some time to do at least one special thing for yourself the next few days.  Whatever your holidays look like, I hope you’re feeling as excited as I am for the year ahead. There are many unknowns right now. While unknown can be scary, it also holds the possibility of beauty beyond our wildest dreams.

Sending love to you all!
