What does “Abundance Mindset” really mean?

“Recieving Infinite Abundance (detail)” mixed media collage, 2021

How do you cultivate an abundance mindset without being greedy or selling your soul?

Artists often find this term confusing because we’re told not to care about money and do it for the passion. Not to mention- have you wondered about the ethics of seeking abundance during a time of global, environmental crisis?

Shouldn’t we be seeking to reduce our consumption and footprint?

If, like me, you think about these things…this post is for you.

So what does an “abundance mindset” really mean?

An Abundance Mindset is the belief that there is enough for everyone on earth, including yourself, to receive all the resources, energy and love needed to live a happy, prosperous life.

I want be very clear about something: Abundance is not about hoarding, greed, consumption or excess. It’s not about receiving all the materials possessions you desire and racking up numbers in a bank account. Abundance is about feeling totally secure, supported, safe and empowered to pursue all your dreams.

To the empaths reading this who are concerned about our planet’s health: remember that the earth has the ability to feed and house all its human and animal children.

The problem is mismanagement of resources, not the earth’s ability to sustain life.

Your desire for a secure and abundant life is perfectly healthy, and possible (especially if your definition of abundance includes the wellness of all other living beings).

Abundant people are totally satisfied, creative and free. Abundant people use their wealth to support their loved ones. Abundant people take great pleasure in giving back to their communities.

Imagine for a moment that you are a millionaire. How wonderful would it feel to write a HUGE check to your favorite charity? If you had all that money, who would you take care of? Whose mortgage would you pay off, or tuition would you cover? Whose dreams, beside your own could you help to realize?

Hopefully you are starting to see, that true abundance, is a loving, reciprocal flow of resources between yourself and the world around you. True abundance lacks fear, shame, scarcity or greed. True abundance is a healthy balance of resources, joyfully harmonized between all the humans, plants, animals and minerals.

With an understanding of true abundance, it should be easy for you to cultivate a strong desire for abundance in your life and the lives of others. That’s what is means to have an abundance mindset.

There are so many great coaching and resources on the internet that can help you cultivate this. A great free audio book is: “You are a Badass “ by Jen Sincero.

FIVE reasons why artists should cultivate an abundance mindset:

  • Your abundance benefits all of us.

As stated above, your true abundance is a reciprocal flow of wealth and health that elevates up everything you come in contact with. If you feel weird asking for abundance for yourself, just do it for the people and things you love! The more abundant you are, the more you can share your good fortune with others.

  • MONEY is the number one cause of stress… and stress blocks creativity.

A relaxed mind is a creative mind, and you can’t relax if you are living in survival mode, never sure when the next check is coming in. Cultivate abundance for the sake of your creativity. The world needs your artistic gifts.

  • You will be happier overall.

People with an abundance mindset are more optimistic in every area of life. Your belief in your ability to attract abundance will not only affect your bank account, it also up-levels your relationships, health, dreams and self-esteem.

  • You can change the narrative of the “Starving Artist.”

This outdated paradigm is a toxic story that keeps creatives down. By stepping into your worth and true abundance, you help usher in a new paradigm that values and compensates creative people for what they’re worth. It’s time to change societal expectations, and you can be a part of that.

  • You will attract exciting collaborations.

You know the saying: “no one loves you when you’re down and out.” However, if you’re projecting an energy of optimism and abundance, you will be tremendously attractive to creative collaborators and clients. Strong partnerships with others are one of the best tools for growing and developing your creative practice.

I resisted the concept of an “abundance mindset” for a long time.

I actually used to hate money! Now, I understand that money is an energetic force we all have to make peace with during our time on the planet. Healthy abundance allows me to offer more of my gifts and ultimately make the world a better place.

I want that for you, too.

with love,

Gabrielle
