BUFFALO CALF ROAD WOMAN

Chalk Mural, 2013

Presented at the 2013 Sarasota Chalk Art Festival for the theme "Honoring our Veterans."  Buffalo Calf Road Woman is a historic Cheyenne figure  who fought in several battles against the US Army.  She is most well know for  "Battle Where the Girl Saved her Brother" (Cheyenne language), also known as the Battle of the Rosebud. Buffalo Calf Road woman is memorialized for riding into the battlefield at full speed to rescue her wounded brother, saving his life. She also fought alongside her husband that same year in the Battle of Little Bighorn.
