Embroidered Fairy Tales for "Make America Create Again
In 2014 I decided to "retell" the traditional stories told in Kate Briggs's "Encyclopedia of Fairy Tales in the English Language." Using embroidery thread to obscure some words, and highlight others, new narratives were born. I'm pleased to share that one of these altered book pages has been included in the CoCA members catalogue and online exhibition called "Make America Create Again." The Center on Contemporary Art (CoCA) is a Seattle organization that serves as a "catalyst and forum for the advancement, development, and understanding of Contemporary Art."
"The Wanderer" (pictured above) is unique in the series because it is the only page to feature a Pussyflower. It's been an honor to share this piece with CoCA, and now I'm thinking I might pick this project up again....those pages were such a delight to embroider!
You can visit the CoCA gallery and pick up a copy of the catalogue at: 114 3rd Ave S, Seattle, WA 98104.
